The City Government of Bacolod is planning to build a cemetery and crematorium for dogs in Barangay Felisa.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez announced yesterday that the proposal for the construction of the project was submitted by Assistant City Veterinarian Dr. Jec Cabuguason.
"For now, we are waiting for the final concept of the project, and once it’s ready, we will move forward with it,” he said.
Benitez also mentioned that an animal shelter will be built in Barangay Granada.
Loben Ceballos, head of the City Engineer's Office, earlier stated that the shelter's design has already been finalized. The P10-million project will have the capacity to accommodate at least 2,000 dogs and cats. The shelter will be managed by the City Veterinary Office.
Originally, the budget for the shelter was part of the P525 million allocated for the rehabilitation of the Burgos Public Market. However, due to strong opposition from market vendors, the city decided to reallocate the funds toward other priority projects.
The City Veterinary Office has requested at least 1.6 hectares of land in the area for the construction of the shelter.
With the completion of these projects, Benitez said the City Veterinary Office will also intensify efforts to address the issue of stray dogs in various barangays. /MAP
