THE Provincial Government, through the Negros Occidental Tourism Division, has conducted training on basic water safety for aquatic lifesavers and pool lifeguards in Escalante City.
The three-day training held at Jomabo Island in the said northern Negros Occidental locality starting yesterday is in partnership with the Philippine Lifesaving Society.
It gathered 37 participants from various resorts and tourism establishments including fisherfolk and Bantay-Dagat personnel in Escalante City.
Provincial Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Cristine Mansinares said the training focuses on water safety, water rescue with rescue board handling, and resuscitation with Automated External Defibrillation and oxygen therapy.
"This will help ensure the safety of tourists and residents in key tourism areas with water-based recreational activities," she said.
Mansinares said the training is the first of the five batches to be conducted in the province from July to October this year. Others are in cities of La Carlota, Cadiz and Himamaylan, and Cauayan town.
In 2017, the same training was extended to San Carlos City, as well as in Hinigaran and Hinoba-an towns.
