THE Department of Agrarian Reform Rank and File Employees Union (DARRFEU) in Negros Occidental Friday, April 3, distributed about P200,000 worth of food items to over 400 beneficiaries in Bacolod City amid the country's on-going battle against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Its secretary Diona Molina, in a statement, said the relief operation was the initiative of union officers and its members in order to help not only the DAR personnel but also those belonging to vulnerable sectors who are greatly affected by the on-going pandemic.
"DARRFEU officers were blessed and thankful that the responses of our members were positive when we introduced this initiative," Molina said, adding that members never hesitated to share a portion of their salaries in order to help their fellow Negrenses.
One family food pack contains rice, assorted canned goods, noodles, bread and milk and is good for a family of five.
The beneficiaries of the food items were security guards, janitors and drivers of both DAR-Negros Occidental North and South, staff of DARRFEU canteen, pedicab drivers, street sweepers, drivers of Shopping-La Salle jeepneys, members of Punta Taytay Integrated Jeepney Drivers and Owners Association (PIJDOA) as well as residents and frontliners in some other portions of the city.
"All we need at this difficult time is to pray harder that the spread of this virus would stop. We have to unite and help our government to find solutions to ease the burden of our fellow Filipinos," Molina said.
She added "let us have faith and strictly observe precautionary measures on how to combat Covid-19 most especially by staying at home and practicing proper hygiene and sanitation."
Meanwhile, Barangay Punta Taytay Council and members of PIJDOA thanked the union for the relief assistance.
"This will help us to stay positive in fighting the present pandemic and eventually to return to our normal lives," they added.
