THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has initially identified six farmers organizations in the northern portion of Negros Occidental to supply food products to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Western Visayas.
This is through the Enhanced Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty (EPAHP) project unveiled in a virtual launching held in Iloilo City on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
The six agrarian reform beneficiaries organizations (Arbos) in the province are Entorilan ARB Association and A&G Esteban Farmers Association in Murcia, Nabinay AR Cooperative in Cadiz City, Mulawin-Lanatan Multi Purpose Cooperative in Sagay City, Hagnaya AR Cooperative in Toboso and Dolis AR Cooperative in Calatrava.
They will supply the agency various food products like vegetables, livestock and poultry, among others.
The project launching was also highlighted by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the DAR and BJMP represented by DAR Regional Director Sheila Enciso and Jail Superintendent Baby Noel Montalvo, respectively.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, who attended the virtual launching, said the forged collaboration is seen to be of great help to the ARBs.
It will boost their income as they will be assured to directly supply their products to the BJMP, he added.
DAR-Negros Occidental I was represented by Officer-In-Charge (OIC) Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Teresita Mabunay, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer I Milagros Flores, and OIC-Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer of Program Beneficiaries Development Division Rizalina Yuguing.
It said the EPAHP project is established by the government to address some of the major problems arising in the rural areas.
It aims to mitigate hunger, secure food and nutrition, and reduce poverty, it added.
