SOME 150 animal raisers in five local government units (LGUs) in the First District of Negros Occidental have received about P2 million in various veterinary projects and services from the Provincial Government.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena, who led the project turnover along with Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson in San Carlos City on Wednesday, September 2, said beneficiaries from each locality received 30 heads of piglets for sow making.
These LGUs include Escalante City, Toboso, San Carlos City, Calatrava and Salvador Benedicto.
Decena said these are on top of the paravet monthly mobility allowance worth P500 each, veterinary drugs and other supplies.
The Provincial Government and City Government of San Carlos also launched a free-range chicken multiplier farm project worth P500,000.
"Both LGUs and beneficiaries are partners of the province in the rural development through animal genetic improvement and technological support," he added.
The piglets were directly received by the recipient-raisers of the five localities.
These are part of the Provincial Animal Genetic Improvement Program (Pagip) under the Abanse Negrense Development Agenda.
Pagip is one of the flagship programs of the Provincial Government, through the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), aimed at improving and upgrading the genetic makeup of local livestock and poultry animals.
"Our government aims to sustain the growth of livestock as one of the pillars of the economic recovery program due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19)," the provincial veterinarian stressed.
