THE Barangay General Luna Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (BGARBA) at Barangay General Luna in Toboso town has distributed rice assistance its members recently.
The farmer-beneficiaries organization assisted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Negros Occidental - North provided five kilograms of rice to all its 35 member-recipients.
BGARBA manages the 13.9913-hectares of land acquired under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp).
Its main crops are corn, banana and other root crops.
The agrarian reform beneficiaries organization (Arbo) is also one of the recipients of the rice retailing business, a project under the Convergence on Livelihood Assistance for Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Project (Claap).
Claap is a collaboration of the DAR and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) which aims to expand and increase farmers' access to economic opportunities.
The DSWD has allocated and transferred to the DAR a total of P1 billion for the conduct and provision of social preparation, technical capacity building, and capital assistance.
It is intended for the establishment of livelihood and micro enterprise projects identified and chosen by the farmer-beneficiaries themselves.
On the rice distribution, DAR-Negros Occidental I said the organization's effort is an inspiring act of kindness among its fellow farmers and farmworkers amid these trying times.
"This is a story of generosity and goodwill continues to bloom despite the coronavirus disease (Covid–19) pandemic," it added.
