THE 17-member Myrianne Young Farmers Organization based in Barangay San Pablo, Manapla, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. at the Provincial Capitol Wednesday, July 18, and presented their own organic produce.
The members of the group are school children aged between seven to 18 years old, who were trained on organic farming in coordination with the Manapla Municipal Agriculture Office.
The group was formed and started farming in 2017. They are attending a farming class every Sunday.
The group is led by its president, Jade Padronia; one of their advisers is Johnic Dela Cruz, a Gawad Saka Regional Outstanding Young Farmer awardee.
According to Municipal Agriculturist, Alan Malijoc, the children are required to drop by in their garden before going to school every day, they check on the plants and do the necessary work assigned to each of them.
Marañon was impressed by the group's initiative and pledged to help them by providing them with farm equipment and supplies.
He advised them to continue to give importance to food security and agricultural productivity at a young age.
The children are also doing their own marketing with the local buyers through the help of their parents.
The group have already produced organic lettuce, eggplant, squash, and ampalaya, among others. (PR)
