The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Technological University of the Philippines Visayas (TUP Visayas) inaugurated the Metals and Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) on Thursday at the TUP Visayas campus in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
The state-of-the-art facility, valued at P15 million, aims to provide advanced equipment, technical expertise, and collaborative opportunities to strengthen the metals and engineering industries in the region.
DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. and Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson led the inauguration and unveiling of the MEIC marker.
The DOST-MIRDC MEIC at TUP Visayas marks a significant investment in the region’s future. By equipping local businesses with the necessary tools and knowledge to innovate, the facility will help create jobs, foster the development of higher-value products, and enhance competitiveness in the global market. The MEIC will also serve as a hub for research and development, encouraging collaboration between academia and industry, and cultivating a culture of innovation among future generations of engineers.
This inauguration represents a crucial step toward strengthening the Philippines' position in the global metals and engineering landscape.
