A MAN and his son died after they were shot by their relative in Barangay Buenavista, Murcia, Negros Occidental Thursday night, April 4.

The fatalities were identified as Windro Berganio, 58; and Wilfredo Berganio, 28.

Police Major Roberto Indiape Jr., town police chief, said the victims and suspects identified as Dennis Berganio, 52; and son Daniel, 20, were having a drinking session at the house of the brother-in-law of the eldest Berganio when Windro decided to go home first.

After a while, Dennis also went home, but while he was on his way home, Windro, who was waiting for him, allegedly threatened him at gunpoint using an airgun.

Armed with an unknown firearm, Dennis fired at his elder brother, which caused his death.

Wilfredo saw the incident from afar and responded to help his father. Then he allegedly hacked his uncle with a bolo, but the latter also shot him.

Daniel came to pacify them but he was also reportedly hacked by his cousin, Wilfredo, who died at a hospital due to gunshot wounds.

The wounded suspects are confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City.

They are being guarded by policemen as they are currently under hospital arrest, Indiape said.

Indiape said the victims' family has yet to decide if they will press charges against their relatives.

Police are also studying if Daniel has a participation in the crime because initially, he was just there to pacify the three when he was also attacked by his cousin.

Police did not recover the weapons from the scene.

Indiape said they are checking if both parties had grudge which could have triggered the incident.

"For now, we can say that the misunderstanding ensued due to too much intake of liquor or drunkenness," he added. (GYM)
