THE Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental is stepping up its efforts to boost its regulatory services among ports in the province through installation of new signage in these points of entry.
Additional signages were recently installed at the vicinity of Bacolod – Silay Airport in Silay City and sea ports at Barangay Banago in Bacolod City.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said there is a growing number of shipment of game fowl from the province to other areas in the country thus, regulatory services should be intensified.
Decena said game fowl enthusiasts in the country prefer buying their fighting cocks from Negros Occidental, which is known for producing quality game fowls.
In fact, the game fowl sector is contributing a lot in the province's livestock and poultry industry, he added.
PVO records showed that from January to March 2019, a total of 44,436 game fowls were shipped out from Negros Occidental.
The highest number of shipment is usually recorded during the first quarter due to several game fowl expositions being held in Manila and other parts of the country.
Decena said in order to protect the game fowl industry, PVO through its Animal Health and Meat Inspection Services ensures the implementation of biosecurity measures in different seaports and airport in the province.
"Animal disease surveillance is also being conducted regularly in order to prevent outbreaks of devastating diseases," he added.
PVO regulatory services include issuance of veterinary health certificate, livestock and game fowl registration and traders licenses.
These have significantly contributed in maintaining a game fowl free-disease producing province for decades already.
