TWO hundred persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and 32 jail officers were tested negative for illegal drug use during a surprise drug test at Metro Bacolod District Jail-Special Intensive Care Area (MBDJ-Sica) in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City on Saturday, August 18.
The jail has a total population of 662 inmates, and 65.67 percent of which are facing drug charges.
Aside from the drug test, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) conducted a greyhound operation, wherein 19 dormitories were checked for the possible existence of contraband.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of five lighters, 10 ballpens, five electric fan covers, five belts, and other nuisance items. No illegal drugs were recovered inside the jail.
The greyhound operation is in line with BJMP's "Oplan Linis Piitan" to prove the non-existence of illegal drugs and other prohibited items in all jails nationwide.
The operation is conducted every quarter of the year to intensify the crackdown of contrabands and avert its entry in order to ensure a drug-free facility.
