FOUR of the Negros Occidental towns are Covid-19 free, said the Provincial Health Office (PHO) Monday, November 9.
These towns are Don Salvador Benedicto, Pulupandan, Calatrava and Moises Padilla.
Of the 5,055 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Negros Occidental, as of November 8, a total of 4,139 already recovered, while 143 had died. The active cases remain at 773, said the PHO during the fourth quarter joint meeting of the Peace and Order and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Councils of Negros Occidental held at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall in Bacolod City.
Cadiz City, meanwhile, has the most number of active Covid-19 cases with 109 from October 24 to November 6.
The PHO also reported that Talisay City remains on top of the list of cities and towns with having the most number of confirmed cases with 604, followed by Silay City with 575 and Cadiz City with 355.
In response to reports that Covid-19 data of PHO and local government units (LGUs) are not synchronized, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who presided the joint meeting, told the LGUs to report their recoveries on a daily basis, so that PHO can update the active cases in each town and city.
"If there is a discrepancy in the figure, we, in the province, are ready to correct," he said.
Noting that the numbers of positive cases in Negros Occidental are low in the past four or five days, Lacson said he is hoping that it will be maintained.
"But what is important is the need for testing, while swabbings are regular, and the province molecular laboratory is ready to accept specimens," he added.
As to the funds of every LGU for Covid-19, Lacson said they can make it up to the end of the year, as he expressed optimism that the proposed budget of P4.4 billion for next year will be approved by the Negros Occidental Provincial Board by December this year.
