THE Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) recorded a 26 percent decrease in the number of 8 focus crimes since the start of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Negros Occidental on March 30 until April 12 as compared to the two weeks prior the ECQ.
Among the crimes that have dropped are murder which registered a 40 percent decrease and physical injury by 25 percent.
Further, there are no rape cases recorded for the duration. Nocppo has documented only 1 case for theft, this is contrary to the fake news that several incidents occurred in the province.
On the violations of special laws, especially with the enforcement of Executive Order (EO) 20-20, where Negros Occidental was placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine, RA11469 and other related laws, NOCPPO has noted a 120 percent increase. These are attributed to the sustained police-initiated operations and increased police presence.
The vehicular accidents have also decreased by 77 percent. The significant fall in the statistics is the result of the decrease in motorists on the streets as travel restrictions were implemented as part of the government's measure to stop the spread of the infectious virus.
