BACOLOD CITY COLLEGE (BCC) Administrator Johanna Ann Bayoneta said they are waiting for the advice from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) national office to finalize the implementation of free tuition law.
Bayoneta said the CHED regional office informed them that BCC is already qualified for free tuition law.
She said their classes started yesterday, June 13, and they enrolled about 3,500 students for the school year 2018-2019.
CHED had earlier approved the accreditation of the BCC to provide free tuition under the Universal Access to Quality Education Act.
Bayoneta said those who initially paid the enrollment will be subject for a refund as soon as it will be finalized with Ched.
"We are expecting that by the second semester, we will fully implement this and the students will only come here to enroll without paying any fees," she said.
Bacolod Representative Greg Gasataya had earlier said this week, CHED will visit the city to discuss with the BCC to settle the payment of those students who have already their enrollment.
Moreover, Bayoneta said they are now hiring teachers for this school year.
She said they need an additional of 11 teachers for the permanent position.
"If our budget will be approved for 2019, every year there will be a hiring for teachers," she added.
