THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution declaring support to Presidential Proclamation No. 316 which declares the month of September as the Maritime and Archipelago National Awareness Month.
They also amended Proclamation No. 176 to transfer the observance of the fish conservation week from the third week of October to the third week of September every year.
The resolution authored by Councilor Bartolome Orola stated that Proclamation orders namely Proclamation no. 470, Series of 2003 –International Coastal Clean-up Day (celebrated during third Saturday of September) and Proclamation 866, Series of 1996 as National Maritime Day (celebrated on last Friday of September), with purposes of continuing crusade against debris crisis all over the world and focusing the public's attention on the vital role of maritime industry, among others.
He said Proclamation No. 316, Series of 2017 signed by Rodrigo Duterte synchronizes the observance of Fish Conservation Week, which is celebrated every third week of October, together with International Clean Up Day and National Maritime Day, thereby transferring the celebration of Fish Conservation Week to the third week of September beginning this year.
"Harmonizing, integrating and synchronizing these activities will undoubtedly strengthen the implementation of the above programs in raising the public's awareness and consciousness on maritime and archipelagic issues and concerns of our country and further encourage the continued partnership between the public and private sectors," Orola added.
