FORMER Bacolod City Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus questioned the plan of the City Government to avail itself of the P1.7-billion loan to fund its various flagship projects.
Sayson asked: "Why build a MassKara coliseum if the aim is to generate income?"
He said he believes that a coliseum will not have a daily activity. He noted that the Araneta Coliseum took 30 years for it to become an economic hub.
He pointed out that the city has no south terminal, which the people badly need. It does not have its own hospital, he added.
"They could have considered these projects first before going to this gigantic project of building a MassKara Coliseum," Sayson said.
He said he is not against the loan. "But there should be transparency," he added.
Meanwhile, Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the City Council committee on finance and appropriation, on his Facebook account, stressed that the loan had been discussed thoroughly, extensively, and followed all the processes.
"In fact, we even conducted a public hearing inviting anyone interested and the Development Bank of the Philippines to answer any questions on the matter. Nobody came to object," he said.
