BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia has asked the assistance of Senator Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito for the reopening of the defunct Bacolod Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital (BOLMSH).
Ejercito, who was in Bacolod City Friday, September 7, inspected the housing project of the National Housing Authority (NHA) in Barangay Felisa with Leonardia, Bacolod Representative Greg Gasataya, Silay City Mayor Mark Golez, E.B. Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon, and other local
Leonardia said he revealed to Ejercito, chair of Senate committees of health and housing, the city's concern on the closure of the BOLMSH, which is considered to be the hospital for the poor.
"I told him we want to reopen this hospital so it can serve the poor, as well as to rehire the affected employees. As much as possible, we want to reopen the hospital," he said.
He added that one of this days, he will visit Ejercito in the Senate with the owner of BOLMSH to discuss this matter.
The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) had earlier denied the motion for reconsideration to re-accredit the hospital in Barangay Mandalagan.
PhilHealth had earlier said the closure of BOLMSH is a decision that was made by its own management and not by PhilHealth or the government.
"It can continue to exist and operate to serve its local constituencies and for the welfare of its employees if it wants to, even without its accreditation with PhilHealth," it said.
Local reports have alleged that PhilHealth had committed an error by attributing these convictions committed by its former management, Tiong Bi Inc., with the current Management Negros Healthcare Management Systems Inc.
Due to the shutdown of hospital operations on July 31, 401 workers were affected.
