THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has asked the cooperation of the public to avoid panic buying in the city amid coronavirus disease (Covid-19) threat.
This was stressed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, spokesperson of BCPO, Thursday, March 26, after several residents in Bacolod were panic buying in various grocery stores and supermarkets on Wednesday.
"There was a long line of market goers here, don't go panic buying because it's only enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). The grocery stores and supermarkets are still open during ECQ," he said.
He added that people should only buy food they need and not hoard.
Pico noted that the supermarkets and manufacturers will also replenish their stocks so there is no reason to panic.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday issued an executive order placing the entire province of Negros Occidental under ECQ.
Pico said they are also waiting for the City Government of Bacolod to issue the same directive.
"It's the best solution (ECQ) to prevent and stop the spread of Covid-19. So please stay at home. Our policemen are always ready to enforce the directives," he said.
Pico also asked the cooperation of the barangay officials to urge their constituents to stay at home.
"Please let's cooperate with our authorities so we can prevent and stop the spread of Covid-19, let's do our part to fight Covid-19," Pico said. (MAP)
