THE BACOLOD City Police Office (BCPO) won the First Civil Disturbance Management (CDM) challenge organized by the Police Regional Office (PRO) Western Visayas held in Iloilo City Thursday, May 24.
Among the nine participating groups, BCPO was declared the overall champion.
Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of BCPO, said 122 contingents led by Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, deputy chief of Police Community Relations (PCR), were sent to Iloilo for the said competition.
Platoon leaders were Senior Inspectors John Adrian Real, and John Christopher Masangkay, and Inspectors Arlyn Torrendon, Vergel Valdepena, Florentino Abalayan, Jonito Pastrana, and Rondyl Tapang.
The BCPO received a trophy and each contingent received medals.
They will compete in the national level at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame.
Vargas said the CDM challenge is a way to test the capabilities and skills of the different units in handling the crowd during protests.
First runner-up was the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-Western Visayas and second runner-up was Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).
Meanwhile, Superintendent Joem Malong, public information officer of PRO-Western Visayas, in a text message to the media, said the objective of the competition is to check the readiness of the CDM companies, personnel, and their equipment.
Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office won in Phase III, executing the problem-based scenarios.
Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO) bested the other groups during the inspection of equipment and uniform in Phase I while RMFB-Western Visayas also won the demonstration of eight basic CDM formations in Phase II.
Cited for best in uniforms were Aklan Provincial Police Office, ICPO, and IPPO.
