THE new management of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation
(Bredco) clarified on Wednesday, December 5, the incident that resulted in the death of a warehouse worker on Tuesday, December 4, did not happen inside their operational jurisdiction.
Romeo Casela, officer-in-charge of Bredco Port, said the warehouse where the body of the victim identified as Richard Gantalao, 50, was found is not within the jurisdiction of Bredco Port.
"There are several privately-owned warehouses at the Reclamation. It's always generally speaking of Bredco whenever there are incidents like this one which is so sad. It paints a picture which is not favorable for Bredco. So I just want to emphasize that it did not happened in Bredco port as far as the new management is concerned," Casela stressed.
He added that the new management of Bredco Port is developing all the facilities from the passenger terminal and in fact, in the pipeline, they will be putting up lights and will be fencing off the area to make it safe for all port users.
"So these are the initial undertakings that we will be putting. The entire port will be lighted properly which will be completed on January 2019 while the fencing will be completed within this month," Casela said.
He added that the fast crafts will be concentrated in a secured area in the new passenger terminal building, and that they will demolish old structures, and unsecured structures.
Casela said the new passenger terminal is still on the dry run.
The grand opening of the new passenger terminal is set early next year, he added.
The body of Gantalao, who was a resident of Barangay Carol-an, Kabankalan City, was found past 10:30 p.m. on December 4 inside the Harry Warehouse where he worked.
He reportedly engaged in a commotion while having a drinking session with his co-workers inside the warehouse. He was reportedly hit by stones and hard objects that caused his death.
