THREE siblings were slashed to death by their elder brother, who was allegedly suffering from a mental illness, inside their house at Sitio Upper Palala in Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental Saturday, June 9.
Chief Inspector John Joel Batusbatusan, town police chief, identified the fatalities as Melibo brothers - Gregor, 1 year old; Alejandro Jr., 5; and Jhonrenz, 14.
Batusbatusan said suspect John Mark Melibo, 21, arrived home for lunch around 12:30 p.m. after working at their farm but his siblings failed to prepare him food.
The suspect, armed with a butcher's knife, suddenly attacked and slashed the throats of his three younger brothers while Jenny Rose, 9, survived as she was able to run outside their house.
Their father, who took a bath at the river, came home two hours after the incident happened. He was shocked upon seeing his children bathed in blood.
Batusbatusan said hunger and tiredness probably triggered the suspect to kill his siblings.
It was the first time the suspect hurt his family, Batusbatusan said, quoting the father.
Police are encouraging the family to file a case against the suspect.
