BACOLOD City Councilor Bartolome Orola urged the Department of Public Services, City Administrators Office, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and City Mayor's Office-Sectoral Concern to facilitate and administer a clean-up drive of the market premises and declogging of sewerages of all public markets.
Orola, chairperson of the City Council committee on markets and slaughterhouse, said on Sunday, January 6, that one of the continuing concerns of the city is the strict implementation and observance of proper solid waste management and the promotion of cleanliness and orderliness in the public markets to achieve a consumer and vendor friendly marketplace.
"It is imperative that a regular clean-up be conducted in all public markets of the city including the Vendors Plaza and the Manokan Country which is hailed as one of the icons of Bacolod," he said.
"Considering also the volume of wastes that pass through the canals of our markets and surrounding areas daily, timely maintenance and intensified declogging of canals must be implemented to improve the flow of water and holding capacity of the drainage system," Orola said.
He said it is also important to encourage participation of the market vendors in the said activity, as means of raising public awareness. (MAP)
