FORMER Negros Occidental governor Rafael Coscolluela on Thursday said that both Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez and Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson are "qualified" to be the successor of Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.
Coscolluela said Lacson has a "good track record as a former mayor of San Carlos City and as vice governor. His stint as vice governor prepares him to be governor" while Benitez has "shown a kind of attitude of being progressive-minded and a visionary."
He said "Negrenses will have a big problem deciding who the better candidate is. In terms of preparation, the vice governor would have the advantage."
He, however, did not mention who he will pick for the 2019 elections.
Coscolluela also s that he has no more political plans and just wants to retire from politics.
"If I will endorse a specific candidate for a position it will be because I believe that they are the best for the position. I might end up endorsing local and national candidates based on my personal criteria," he said.
Coscolluela has resigned from the Liberal Party where he was the provincial chair in the previous election.
He said he is not aware what's going on with the party especially in the local scene and what he knew is that majority of the local officials in the province have already joined the administration party. (TDE)
