THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution supporting the conversion of Sum-ag National High School into Sum-ag Polytechnic State College.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Cindy Rojas, was approved during the regular session Wednesday, July 18.
Rojas said education is considered the most effective means of making the lives of the citizens better by landing a better job to support and strengthen the most basic unit of society which is the family.
"Lack of education is seriously affecting millions of our people," she said.
Rojas noted that Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991, provides that National agencies and offices with project implementation functions shall coordinate with one another and with the local government units concerned in the discharge of these functions.
They shall ensure the participation of local government units both in the planning and implementation of said national projects, it further stated.
Congressman Greg Gasataya earlier said that he is conducting a feasibility study on the conversion of Sum-ag National High School into Sum-ag Polytechnic College.
Gasataya said the conversion of the Sum-ag National High School into a Polytechnic College will bring a good effect in the city.
"So far, we don't have a polytechnic college here or government institution in Bacolod or even in the neighboring towns and cities that offers agriculture course," he said.
He added that in terms of land area, Sum-ag National High School has enough space, with more classrooms and complete facilities. They have a total of 4,000 students. (MAP)
