BACOLOD City District Engineer Abraham Villareal said on Friday, September 28, the areas of Rizal Street going to Mandalagan Bridge is now passable for the motor vehicles.
Villareal said the construction of the drainage projects from Rizal to Mandalagan Bridge was already complete and they are only fixing the existing inlets in the said areas.
"It's now 97 percent completed and we are only doing the inlets in the connecting pipes along Lacson Street going to Barangays Mandalagan and Bata that would efficiently collect surface ran of water from the occurrence of rain," he said.
He added they are also connecting the old drainage line to the new drainage line from Rizal Street to Mandalagan Bridge.
The drainage project along Rizal Street going to Capitol Lagoon on Lacson Street costs P20 million while the one from Lacson Street towards Mandalagan Bridge is worth P35 million.
Villareal said the connection of inlets along Lacson Street will be temporarily stopped because of the celebration of the MassKara Festival.
"Starting next month, there will be no drainage construction at Lacson Street," he said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is also conducting a study on how to address the flood problems along Circumferential Road.
Villareal said they are eyeing to construct additional of drainage near the Bacolod Government Center.
"We will check what we can do to address the flood problems in the area," he said.
The DPWH is also coordinating with the local government unit to resolve the flood problems in the area of Buri Road in Barangay Mandalagan as well as to other flood-prone areas.
