A FORMER village chief was gunned down by unidentified men at Barangay San Agustin in Isabela, Negros Occidental Friday afternoon, August 10.
Senior Inspector Randy Babor, town police chief, identified the fatality as Agapito Euroba of the said village.
Babor said Euroba, along with a companion, went to the upland part of the village to visit his farm past 4 p.m.
When they arrived, unidentified assailants fired at him several times and fled.
He succumbed to head injuries.
Police recovered from the scene three fired bullets of an M16 rifle.
Babor said they cannot tell yet if the victim was followed by the gunmen but they knew he was the target because his companion was unharmed.
Police have no lead yet on the identities of the perpetrators as there were no witnesses.
Babor said that Euroba had previously received threats from suspected rebels.
"There's a possibility that it could be perpetrated by those who threatened him," Babor said.
The investigation is still ongoing.
