SPEAKING from the heart, Bro. Joaquin Kenneth Martinez, president and chancellor of the University of St. La Salle told the officers and members of the Rotary Club of Bacolod-East during their 36th induction ceremony held recently to find joy in what they do especially in serving others in the community.
He said: "when you may be rough by conflict but your inner child wants to reconcile, find ways to start the conversation again. Put aside your ego and pride and work for what you said you for. Remember what your oath. Do not just say it just do it. Say it when the times are tough."
Businessman Philip Araneta and the other officers took their oath before past district governor Sonny Elegado following the turnover of leadership from immediate past president Carla Canet, VoxPop reporter.
Martinez told the new president to "find inspiration with one another and you will find inspiration in the stories of the people that you helped because at the end of the day, they are also an inspiration if you listen to their stories. They will show you much courage because the real transaction and transformation is not only in their lives, but it could be in yours if you put Jesus in your heart. There could be no way in which this transformation will not happen. It will happen."
For his part, Araneta said "it was a destiny for me because I was looking for ways on how to give back and Rotary comes knocking at my door. How can I say no?
"We are not a social club, we are a working club, a charity club, civic service club or a club of many functions. And each member here has leverage or a contact and the ability to reach out to the different sectors of society. With this, I sit in the position which I consider blessed because I am now in a position to make things happen. I am so glad to be with this club because we have a long line of past presidents who are very dedicated, selfless and very generous of their time," he said.
He added that Cañet is just a small girl but leaves behind a big shoe to fill.
He humbly accepts the responsibility and vowed to pour his heart and soul to the Rotary service.
Meanwhile, Cañet expressed her gratitude to all the officers and members who gave their support. (CNC)
