BACOLOD City Vice-Mayor El Cid Familiaran said yesterday, June 5, that the implementation of free tuition law in Bacolod City College (BCC) is very timely for this school year 2018-2019.
Familiaran said the free tuition is a big help to the BCC students.
He said the City Government is also planning to expand the BCC building because it is one of the priority projects of Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
On Saturday, June 2, Bacolod City Representative Greg Gasataya confirmed that the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) approved the accreditation of the BCC to provide free tuition under the Universal Access to Quality Education Act.
BCC will now implement free tuition and miscellaneous fees for this school year.
"We will expect more students to avail the free tuition program and it is also time to find more funds for the construction of additional BCC buildings to accommodate our students," Familiaran said.
In the last school year, BCC has a total of around 4,000 students.
Familiaran said the City Government will also find ways to hire more teachers for BCC.
This week, Ched will visit the city to discuss with the BCC to settle the payment of those students who have paid already their enrollment.
Those who initially paid the enrollment will be reimbursed by Ched.
