GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson is eyeing a one-week extension of the modified enhanced community quarantine after April 30.
Lacson said the provincial government is not rushing its decision to move to a general community quarantine (GCQ).
"Personally, I would like to recommend one week of ECQ then go to GCQ. I want the local government units to be ready," Lacson said.
He added that the rules under a GCQ are different because "people can go out already and there will be mass transportation."
"Are we ready? I don't want to rush. At the very least it should be a one-week extension. If the mayors say they want two weeks extension, I'm all for it," he pointed out.
He said under the one-week extension, the Executive Order 2020-B will still be enforced.
I want to ensure that the province is ready for a shift to GCQ, Lacson said.
Lacson said he will still consult the 30 cities and municipalities before making a decision.
We don't want to be complacent, the governor added.
Negros Occidental is one of the provinces in the Philippines that has been recommended by the Inter- Agency Task Force to be downgraded to GCQ or the "new normal".
On Thursday, Negros Occidental recorded two new positive Covid-19 cases.
Patients 3 and 4 were among the repatriated overseas workers from Cebu City who arrived here via Escalante City from Tabuelan, Cebu April 14.
Both are asymptomatic and have now been isolated at the Provincial Healing Center quarantine facility in EB Magalona town.
The 38-year-old, native of Silay came from The Netherlands while the 50-year-old is from Candoni who arrived from Finland, a profile from the provincial government showed.
