GOVERNOR Eugenio Jose Lacson is set to meet with health officials and members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) to discuss what actions would be taken by the provincial government to prevent the entry of the 2019 novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (2019-nCoV ARD).
Lacson said they have yet to form a task force against the ongoing threat, although he was informed by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang that they are ready and are monitoring the situation.
Lacson urged the residents of the public not to place too much reliance on the government or the health workers, and that they have to do their obligation in the community by following the advice issued by health officials.
He also told the public to immediately notify their respective barangay or health officials if they know someone who has recently traveled to China.
The governor has also appealed to the public to stop spreading "fake news" of the virus on social media in order to prevent panic and fear to other people.
Last week, Tumimbang said they have stepped up surveillance monitoring at the province's points of entry and border monitoring between the Negros provinces.
Tumimbang also affirmed that there are no confirmed 2019-nCoV ARD cases in the province nor are there patients being monitored.
The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, meanwhile, has also offered to assist the Provincial Health Office in border monitoring against the virus.
