A motorcycle-for-hire (habal-habal) driver was injured after he resisted arrest from policemen at Barangay Payao in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental Monday, August 5.
Police identified the suspect as Junrey Patoc, 28, of Barangay Santol.
Personnel of Binalbagan Municipal Police Station were conducting visibility patrol during the market day at the village when a concerned citizen called for police assistance, informing them about Patoc, who was allegedly displaying his firearm near the tricycle parking area, police records showed.
When police tried to approach Patoc, he suddenly ran towards a sugarcane plantation.
Police negotiated for his surrender, but he instead drew his gun. This prompted the police to shoot him.
Patoc sustained a minor gunshot wound on his right wrist. He was brought to a hospital but was later discharged.
Police recovered from Patoc a homemade .38 caliber revolver loaded with six rounds of live ammunition, and a fragmentation grenade placed inside his backpack.
Senior Inspector Albert Sy, town police chief, said Patoc has an alleged rape case previously committed on June.
Also, the suspect reportedly threatened some women in Barangay Santol.
Patoc is now detained at the police station for the filing of charges for illegal possession of a firearm, and explosive. (GYM)
