NEGROS Occidental Acting Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson confirmed Friday, June 29, that Love Negros held a meeting attended by some mayors and Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez to get support for their candidate Punong Barangay Jovie Tepillo of Victorias City for president of the Provincial Liga ng mga Barangay.
The election will be on July 30.
Lacson, however, did not reveal the names of the mayors who attended the said meeting.
He said that Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca presented Tepillo and asked other mayors to back her.
Tepillo who is a psychology graduate has served as guidance counselor at La Consolacion College for 15 years. At present, she is an executive director of the Victorias City Drug Foundation.
"She presented herself before the mayors and it's good that she did it and asked for the support of the mayors. We are supporting Mayor Palanca," Lacson said.
Between incumbent Liga president Anabelle Bermudo and Tepillo, he believes that either will be able to represent well the Liga in the Provincial Board.
In another development, Lacson said he will be meeting with the sugarcane workers who forced their way at the Capitol compound on Monday.
Lacson said that he was not available on Thursday when about 1,000 sugarcane workers barged in at the Capitol compound to seek an audience with him and asked for assistance because the off-milling season is approaching and that there is no more job in the haciendas.
"There was no need to barged in at the Capitol property to let us know of their demands because we have been willing to sit down and listen to them," Lacson said.
The workers said they opted to barge in at the Capitol compound after their several appeals to the government was not been attended. (TDE)
