DESPITE the allegations of rampant vote-buying on both camps, a Love Negros bet won president of the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) in Murcia.
Barangay Lopez Jaena chieftain Hernan Alintana defeated incumbent ABC president Antonio Luis Gonzaga of Barangay Caliban.
He got 15 votes compared to Gonzaga's eight.
Alintana will seat as representative of the ABC in the Sangguniang Bayan.
Gonzaga has filed a written complaint to Department of the Interior and Local Government Director Carmelo Orbista on the alleged intervention of some political forces in the town to allegedly spoil, discredit and violate their ABC electoral process to pursue their self-interests.
But after the election yesterday, Gonzaga said the election went on smoothly. "We will respect the decision of the majority," he added.
Gonzaga also denied that there was vote-buying during the election yesterday.
Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano, who belongs to Love Negros, alleged there's a candidate who engaged in vote-buying amounting to P40, 000 per punong barangay.
Moreover, he also said that Gonzaga should accept defeat.
"We should give a chance to everybody so that another member of the SB representing the ABC will help us serve our constituents," Montelibano said.
He said that the 15 Punong Barangays who voted for Alintana will definitely be rewarded through projects.
He also lamented that because of Gonzaga's complaint, the DILG that supervises the ABC elections swapped the local officers of Murcia and Salvador Benedicto in yesterday's election. (TDE)
