THE management of Ayala Malls Capitol Central in Bacolod City has asked the City Council for another 90-day dry run of southbound public utility jeepney (PUJs) to extend its route to the Provincial Capitol and Ayala Malls this month.
Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairperson of the City Council committee on transportation, said they already received the request of the mall signed by its general manager Sharon Ciocon, but he said that in previous year, a traffic experiment was already conducted in the area.
He said the traffic experiment was conducted in 2019 from Rizal Street to Gatuslao Street in South Capitol Road going to the Vendors Plaza. These include the PUJs plying Sum-ag, Pta. Taytay, Tangub, Singcang-Airport, and Magsungay.
Ramos said they already endorsed favorably to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-Western Visayas to reroute the southbound PUJs.
"For now, we cannot act on it because it's up to the LTFRB to change the routes of the PUJs. The PUJ operators can also file their petition to the LTFRB to change their routes," he said.
He added that only the LTFRB can determine or change the point of origin and point of destination of the PUJs franchise and not the local government unit.
Ramos noted the PUJ operators can also file a request to the LTFRB to extend their routes in the city.
Ramos said they will make a formal reply to the management of the mall this week.
