PERSONS with disabilities (PWDs) in the 5th District who have mobility issues received wheelchairs to help with their daily mobility through the initiative of Representative Ma. Lourdes "Marilou" T. Arroyo.
The lawmaker from the 5th District of Negros Occidental made the move as a response to the need of PWDs with no access to assistive devices that will help minimize the impact of their physical impediment.
During the turnover ceremony, a total of 60 wheelchairs, ten for each local government unit, were individually distributed to the beneficiaries in the 5th District.
Arroyo, who also chairs the Committee on Persons with Disabilities in Congress, was grateful that she was able to provide the assistive devices that they need.
"Assistive devices are a basic need of our persons with disabilities who have mobility issues. Not having a mobility aid made the situation of many persons with disabilities and their families even more difficult. I hope that these wheelchairs can help them with their daily mobility and productivity. I hope that I was able to put smiles on their faces," Arroyo said.
The lawmaker also extended her gratitude to Department of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and Governor Eugenio "Bong" Lacson for supporting the initiative for the welfare of PWDs in the 5th District.
