NEGROS Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) Director Police Colonel Romy Palgue reminded all police forces in the province to be vigilant against improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by insurgents from the New People's Army (NPA).
Palgue made the reminder as the NPA founding anniversary, which would take place on March 29, draws near and in response to the IED attack on a police convoy in the town of Janiuay in Iloilo on March 3.
Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, NOCPPO spokesperson, said cops should not make any posts on social media if they are going to make their routine patrols and if they are engaging in convoy escort duties for public officials.
Donasco said the NOCPPO director had also reminded police stations to closely coordinate with other police units in the province and the Philippine Army to get additional support when traveling on the roads.
Based on intelligence reports coming from their counterparts in the Iloilo Provincial Police Office, the NPA is planning to launch attacks against uniformed personnel or engage in the destruction of heavy equipment or government projects.
Recent encounters between the NPA in Negros, the latest of which happened in the town of La Libertad in Negros Oriental on Monday, yielded an IED while an alleged rebel member was killed.
