LOCAL government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental still has less compliance on the demolition of illegal structures and road obstructions, which was ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Lawyer Ferdinand Panes, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) provincial director, said he has been given until noon time of September 27 for the validation team to submit reports about the compliance of the LGUs in the province relative to the clearing operations.
The validation team has been formed to check on the compliance of the LGUs on Duterte's orders.
The report of the validation team will be submitted to the DILG Central Office and it will be assessed whether it is necessary to take action against the LGUs depending on their respective compliance.
But Panes said that based on his personal observation after he went around the different LGUs in the province, he gave a rating of 35 percent to 45 percent of the compliance of the LGUs.
He did not identify the specific towns and cities he rated.
Panes also noted that there are privately-owned permanent obstructions that are not demolished, while there are also some posts in some areas that remain to be obstructing roads.
Duterte has told the DILG that failure to comply with the clearing operation could lead to the dismissal of erring punong barangays and mayors.
