THE Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (Norppo) created a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to focus the investigation on the strafing and shooting incidents that resulted to the death of a resident and serious injuries to an incoming village chief at Barangay Humay-Humay in Guihulngan City Tuesday, June 12.

The SITG is composed of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)–Negros Oriental, Provincial Intelligence Branch, Provincial Crime Laboratory, Provincial Investigation Branch, Police Community Relations Office, and investigation team of Guihulngan City Police Station under the overall supervision of Senior Superintendent Raul Tacaca, provincial police director.

On June 12, about 70 unidentified men believed to be members of the New People's Army (NPA) strafed the house of newly-elected village chief Mike Jakosalem.

Tacaca said Jakosalem is still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a hospital in Bacolod City.

He said they have yet to establish the motive but they believed that NPA perpetrated the attack after he was informed that Jakosalem had received threats from the rebels.
