THE Mount Cansermon Command (MCC) of the New People's Army (NPA) admitted the burning of the heavy equipment and bunkhouse of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) at Barangay Tan-awan in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on May 7.
In a press release Wednesday, May 9, the rebel group said the burning of this equipment was a symbol of strong opposition against the construction of a dam, a government project of NIA in the city.
The group also said the project causes danger to the residents in the area crossing the Hilabangan River.
The construction of the dam also reportedly displaced the livelihood of the residents near the site.
Meanwhile, they are also calling for the resumption of peace talks to achieve land reformation. (GYM)
