A MAN was shot to death by suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) in Barangay Macagahay, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental Wednesday night, March 27.
The victim was identified as Joselido Ramirez, 53, a laborer.
Police Captain Junji Liba, town police chief, said the victim, along with his younger brother and 27-year-old son, was walking home from the market at 6:30 p.m. when they were allegedly attacked by three unidentified assailants.
Liba said the victim's companions were able to run and drop on the ground when Ramirez shouted at them.
They were unharmed but Ramirez was riddled with bullets.
Liba said Ramirez succumbed to 15 gunshot wounds.
He (Ramirez) was really the target of the attack, Liba said.
The assailants, who allegedly introduced themselves as NPA, fled on foot.
Police recovered several fired bullets and slugs of .45 caliber.
The town police chief said the victim had no previous threats.
Liba said they are still verifying if the gunmen were really rebels.
"We have no information that the victim was a military asset, but he has previous criminal records for alarm and scandal in the area," Liba said. (GYM)
