THE Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in Negros Occidental recently approved funding for disaster prevention-related projects in the province.
During its recent meeting, the council approved P6.5 million appropriation for the establishment of a resettlement site in the town of Hinobaan that will include the construction of roads and drainage.
The two-hectare site can accommodate 120 families.
The council also approved the request of the Negros Occidental Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) office fund amounting to P434,650 for the training of 30 firemen that will make-up the Negros Occidental Special Rescue Unit (SRU).
Provincial Fire Marshall Pamela Rojane Candido said the training will include basic rope technique and mountain rescue, among others, with trainers coming from the BFP's national headquarters.
Training venue will be at the Amity Public Safety Academy in Pana-ad Sports Complex.
In addition, the BFP got a nod for the training of city and municipal fire marshals and chief operation on Basic Incident Command System for three days with a budgetary requirement of P252,000.
Meanwhile, the proposal of the Disaster Management Program Division to establish and operate Task Force Buglas Humanitarian and Disaster Response and Coordination Center with a budget of P18 million was also approved.
The division is also pursuing to put up a P25-million Disaster Risk Reduction Command System.
Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino said they also got a go signal for a P5 million fund for the climate resilience in the fisheries sector through access to insurance. (PR)
