Police: No foul play in seaman's death

THE Pontevedra Municipal Police Station has ruled out foul play in the death of a seaman who reportedly drowned in a beach resort in the southern Negros Occidental town Sunday, October 10.

Police Lieutenant Rowell Peniero, deputy Commander of Pontevedra Police, said Helry Gamilong, 39, of Barangay Guintorilan in San Enrique town, Negros Occidental, went swimming with two others whose names were not disclosed.

Peniero said Gamilong was swept by huge waves to the deep portion of the sea and submerged.

He said it took sometime before Gamilong was recovered underwater.

Peniero added that the rescuers tried to revive him but to no avail.

Gamilong was rushed to the rural health unit of Pontevedra where he died while being treated.
