SENIOR Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, acting director of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said they are not eliminating all possible angles on the death of lawyer Rafael Atotubo, who was gunned down by two unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants in front of his house at Barangay 20 on August 23.
Ebreo reacted on the reports that policemen were behind the death of Atotubo due to the manner of the killing.
"We even don't know if he had policemen-clients or if he had encountered problems with them," he said.
Ebreo said all angles are possible and anybody can be a suspect.
He said they are studying all possible angles on the incident, including his work and business.
He believed that Atotubo's activities were monitored before he was killed which is why they are waiting for the victim's family to turn over the copy of the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage to identify the people who were nearby the victim's house before and after the incident.
"This is a challenge on our part. We also need the cooperation of the family to solve the case," he said.
As of press time, Ebreo said they still have no lead on the identities of the perpetrators.
The family of Atotubo, in a media interview, said they already have no trust in the police regarding the investigation.
Ebreo said the family already told them they will turn over the copy of the CCTV footage and the victim's cellular phone to Police Station 4.
A Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) was also created to focus on probing the gruesome murder of Atotubo, a defense lawyer of drug personalities.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-Negros Occidental chapter led by lawyer Arnel Lapore initiated a solidarity mass at the Hall of Justice on Wednesday, August 29, to call for the stoppage of the extrajudicial killings.
