BACOLOD City Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairperson of the City Council committee on transportation, will hold a public hearing next week for the proposal to transfer the three terminals of the public utility jeepney (PUJ) from Hilado Street to Daniel Ramos Street near the Burgos Public Market in Bacolod City.
Ramos said Thursday, October 10, that they will invite all the affected drivers from Barangays Granada and Alangilan, and the drivers of San Dioniso-Burgos route as well as the barangay officials.
"We need to hear their sentiments first before we implement the said plan because we have an existing ordinance in said area," he said.
He added the existing ordinance should be amended first before the transfer of terminals from Hilado Street to Daniel Ramos Street.
Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) head Police Lieutenant Colonel Luisito Acebuche earlier asked the City Council to amend the city's existing ordinance to transfer the three terminals along Burgos Street.
He said these terminals had caused the traffic congestion in Hilado Street because of the diagonal parking of the drivers on the roads and the big volume of vehicles in the area due to the traffic light at Burgos Street.
He added Daniel Ramos Street was already cleared from illegal structures and it's a good area to be used as terminals for the PUJs plying Granada- Burgos, Alangilan-Burgos, and San Dionisio-Burgos.
Last month, hundreds of vegetable and fruit vendors at Daniel Ramos Street and Burgos Street were demolished and transferred inside the Burgos Public Market in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to rid public streets of obstructions to facilitate the orderly use of thoroughfares.
