BUSINESSMAN and management consultant Philip Javellana Araneta will swear in as the new president of the Rotary Club of Bacolod-East today, July 5, at O Hotel, Bacolod City before past district governor Sonny Elegado.
Araneta is the second cousin of former senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas.
He succeeded VoxPop Bacolod reporter Carla Cañet, who is now the immediate past president of the Club and also a former president of the Negros Press Club.
Other officers will also swear in, including past president Maricar Octaviano as vice president; lawyer Belinda Siason-Villa, secretary; past president Alberto "Jun-Jun" Arceo, treasurer; Carla Cañet, immediate past president; past president Monching Delariarte, protocol officer; past district governor and past president Phil Abello; club trainer and president-nominee Marinette Torrejon as director for club administration.
Araneta said: "as the new president, I want to focus on membership awareness of the true meaning and experience of Rotary. We will continue the previous projects of immediate past president Carla and also implement projects like maternal and child health, disease prevention, peace and conflict resolution, livelihood and economic development, basic education and literacy and water and sanitation."
This year's theme is "Experience Rotary and be an inspiration to the community."
Rotary leadership has a spirit of continuity, Araneta said. "We hope that other leaders of society can adopt the same spirit which would mean progress for our own country." (CNC)
