THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) will lead the signing of peace covenant by all candidates for the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.
Provincial Comelec supervisor Jessie Suarez said the town of Candoni was the first to hold the signing of peace covenant.
It will be followed by Bacolod City Monday, April 30. The covenant signing will be held at the Bacolod Arts and Youth Sports Center.
All candidates for the barangay positions, from punong barangay to kagawad, and for SK positions are enjoined to sign the peace covenant to ensure a peaceful, clean, non-partisan and honest elections, said Suarez.
He said every town and city should hold its respective candidates' forum and signing of the peace covenant.
Suarez also said that Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon will arrive in Bacolod City Monday, April 30, for the said activities.
In the afternoon, Guanzon will hold a consultative meeting at the Annex Building of the Bacolod City Government Center.
The consultative meeting is in preparation for the May 14 and will be attended by the director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, commander of 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, city and provincial prosecutors, city and provincial treasurers, Department of Education provincial supervisor and city division superintendent and officials or representatives from the three electric cooperatives in the province.
Through the consultative meeting, all possible problems and solutions will be tackled for the smooth conduct of the manual voting on May 14, Suarez said.
He added that the Comelec officers, at this time, are busy for the briefing of teachers who will act as the electoral board during the May 14 elections.
Meanwhile, Suarez encouraged the candidates that if they have complaints about the alleged intervention of some local officials and politicians in the barangay and SK polls, they should immediately report to their office so they could properly address the matter.
Politicians should not intervene, he said.
