A TEACHER was allegedly mauled by her 16-year-old male student at the Principal's Office when she complained about his misbehavior in Raymundo T. Tongson High School Extension, Barangay Suay, Himamaylan City.
Based on the affidavit executed before the Prosecutor's Office by Kristel Anne Valencia, 23, and a teacher of the said school, the incident happened on February 26.
In her sworn statement, she claimed that she received "disturbing" messages via online chat from the student telling her "Hey send nude."
Valencia immediately forwarded the message via the class' group chat, and she immediately informed the teacher-in-charge Ma. Lynn Munchuelas, who is also the student's grandmother.
The victim said she was advised by Munchuelas to personally talk with the student in order to find out why he is sending "annoying" messages.
Around 3 p.m. of February 26, both Valencia and the student met alone at the principal's office.
Valencia calmly talked with the student asking him as to why he was sending such messages, however, the said student denied he was the one who sent it.
Valencia also confronted the student why he called her "ungo" [dumb] and a "good for nothing" teacher.
The student, however, told the teacher that he is unfairly blamed for everything.
Valencia further said the student stated "bay-I da ma expel" [I don't care if I get expelled].
The student then allegedly removed his ID and sling bag, placed his mobile phone in the table, stood up in front of Valencia while wrapping his fist with a handkerchief and punched her in the forehead.
The student then repeatedly attacked Valencia, pulled her hair, and smacked the teacher's face in the sofa.
Valencia's fellow teachers immediately pacified the two, and that she also saw the student's mother Kristine Joy Torcita, also a teacher in said school, among those around.
Valencia added in her affidavit that Torcita shouted at her stating "what hurtful words did you say to my child, why do you have to force him to admit to something he did not do? It's your fault that you talked to him alone."
Valencia said Torcita challenged her to file a case, as she will also file charges against her.
The victim incurred several injuries from the incident, and based on a medical certificate she presented alongside the affidavit, she suffered a cerebral concussion secondary to blunt trauma and she was advised to get a three to five day rest.
The involved student's family, meanwhile, has yet to issue their comment over the incident.
Moreover, Bernie Libo-on, Assistant School's Division Superintendent of Himamaylan City, said Valencia was re-assigned to the main school in Barangay Talaban also in Himamaylan to ease her from trauma while the student has been advised not to go to school in the meantime while he was given the module.
He also confirmed that the student has psychological problem.
However Libo-on clarified that the TIS of the school who is the grandmother of the student was not present when the incident happened because she was attending a seminar at Himamaylan National High School.
He said that they will base their investigation on the school's handbook and they will talk personally to the student and his parents as well.
Board Member Ernesto Agustin Bascon, Chair of the Committee on Education said that if the problem could not be resolved by the local office of the Department of Education in Himamaylan Division it will be elevated to the regional office because Himamaylan City has been separated from the Negros Occidental School Division.
