THE Transportation Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) providers in Bacolod City spearheaded the caravan on Wednesday, March 6 to show their support to the candidacy of former Special Assistant to the President Bong Go, who is running for the Senate in the May 13 elections.
The group likewise got the support of the Concerned Communities for a Better Western Visayas (CCBWV), which has representatives from the sectors of transportation, tourism, entrepreneurship, as well as common travelers, civic leaders and the "common tao." They all believe in the national leadership.
The caravan kicked off in three venues: Barangays Sum-ag and Bata, and at the Circumferential Road. It then converged in the Burgos Bredco area in the Reclamation Area.
They posted tarpaulins in their vehicles bearing colorful slogans that clearly expressed their support for Go.
Earlier, this group sent a letter to President Rodrigo R. Duterte, expressing its goals of developing the Western Visayas region into a hub for business enhancement and tourism promotion with the help of the National Government, through Go.
CCBWV representative Toots Jimenez said that this could be done if travelers are ensured of comfortable, safe and secure trips.
While jeepneys and buses have satisfied commuters, CCBWV saw the added advantage of allowing TNVS in the country. It clearly increases ease of travel. The system has existed for years and is gaining traction in the region.
The TNVS community also feels the need to anchor its only hope in President Duterte, through his trusted alter ego—Go, who can surely deliver the message to the President with urgency.
"We know that President Duterte will hear us and extend his assistance to us, and help bring the face of modern transportation system in the country," said Jimenez.
