SEVERAL unauthorized items were seized during a greyhound operation at Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ)–male dormitory in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City Monday, September 10.
Senior Inspector Jay Miciano, jail warden, said lighters, compact disks, nails, and steel rod, among others, were recovered during the operation which is in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
Miciano said they inspected all the dormitories to flush out contraband and to ensure that no illegal drugs were smuggled in the facility.
Aside from the monthly inspection, the jail also conducts "Oplan Linis Piitan" every quarter to ensure that all jails are drug-free.
Miciano said about 60 percent of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the jail have drug-related cases.
"We do not discount the possible entry of contraband inside the jail but to prevent it, we will continue to do random inspections," he added.
At present, the jail houses 802 inmates.
Miciano said they are hoping that the four-storey building, which is now under construction, can be finished by next year to address congestion. (GYM)
