THERE are no election-related incidents yet in the province, the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) said Monday, October 9.
Nocppo spokesperson Capt. Judesses Catalogo said it is possible that rival political groups in the province are hesitant to stir up trouble due to the tight security, particularly their checkpoints, across the province.
Catalogo also stated that their intelligence units have also strengthened their monitoring in villages across the province, especially areas that are known to have the presence of communist insurgents.
Nocppo has also confirmed that they have not received any complaints from candidates regarding the insurgents conducting extortion activities such as "permit to campaign."
Catalogo advised Negrenses to remain cooperative with local authorities for a safe and peaceful election in the province.
The Commission on Elections, along with the police and the military in the province, identified at least 51 barangays in Negros Occidental as "areas of concern."*
